1. Do I need a PC or MAC?
Not at all - if you choose our 'direct to device' service all of your music will be ‘ripped’ directly onto your chosen device (USB or NAS Drive). This is the option to use if you have a Digital Music System like SONOS
2. What type of PC or Mac do I need?
Any PC bought over the last four years will suffice - look out for any specification above a Pentium II, 200 MHz. However, you will need a DVD drive to read the discs we send you, and or, a Network or USB port should you use our external hard drive option.
3. How will my music library be organised?
The RipFactory organises your music library by artist, album, and genre. This information is included in both ID3 tags (MetaData) within every file as well as within the file names themselves.
4. How do I load my music onto my iPod or MP3 Player?
The RipFactory can deliver files that are compatible with all music players. You must select a format compatible for your portable device for us to Rip to i.e. MP3
You load your iPod or MP3 player in three simple steps:
- Load your music onto your computer.
- Import the files into iTunes or your MP3 player's music management software.
- Use iTunes or your MP3 player's music management software to sync your player with your computer.
Consult your iPod users manual, the iTunes sync page or your MP3 player's users manual for more details. We also will provide documentation with the return of your Digital Music Library if you have chosen MP3 as a format.
5. What benefit does the NAS hard drive option provide?
When using certain Digital Music Systems (like SONOS) your PC is not required to be turned on to allow access to your digital music library. This enables 24/7 playback of your music collection whenever you're in the 'mood to groove'.
6. If I purchase a computer later, can I sync my iPod™ with my new computer?
Apple designed the syncing process to flow from computer to iPod™ only. The reverse would allow for increased piracy. You can order our DVD backup service, so you will be able to load your Digital Music Library onto your new computer, clear your iPod™ and complete a new sync.
7. Do I have space for all of my CD's on my PC?
Audio files do take up a lot of space. As a very rough guide 100 CD's (compressed) will take up 10 GB (10,000 MB). You can do a quick check by following the steps below:
- Windows Users:
To check if you have the space Windows 98/XP users should double click 'My Computer’, right click your hard drive icon, click properties and windows will tell you how much free space you have.
- Mac Users
On your desktop, click on the icon for your internal hard drive (usually called "Macintosh HD")
The amount of available space on your hard drive is listed at the top of the resulting window.
If you don't have enough space, we recommend you purchase one of our external hard drive options.
8. I already purchased my iPod, can you still load it?
At the moment, no. We are working to change this, so that you can send us your MP3 player along with your CD collection for loading.
